About
Medha Hari, a professional Bharathanatyam dancer, choreographer and teacher is recognised as one of the leading artistes of her generation. She was initiated into the art form by her Guru. Smt. Anitha Guha and has trained in advanced abhinaya with Smt. Bragha Bessell. She is currently under the guidance of renowned danseuse Smt. Priyadarsini Govind. She has also completed the Marga Nritta Karana course under Ms. Vithya Arasu to absorb the vocabulary of the 108 karanas formulated by Dr. Padma Subramaniam.
Fortuitously initiated into dance at the tender age of 5, what started as a passtime soon turned into a passionate obsession. It has ever since been the biggest driving force in her life, her best friend and confidante. She has always found immense joy and a profound sense of purpose from it that has been unparalleled. Most importantly, she draws from it her life values - to live in the present moment alone, completely and deeply and to remain a student curious to learn and grow every day.
In 2012, while still chasing her dance dreams, she cleared her Chartered Accountancy Examinations with creditable grades thus opening the doors for a lucrative career path at the age of 21. However, realising dance was her true calling, she decided to take the plunge and pursue it professionally. She is also a mother to twin daughters, who teach her in their own ways to unlearn, innovate, improvise and rediscover the inner child within her to experience a life of innocence. They are her reminder to live simply, happily and love unconditionally.

The Hindu, February 2024
“Sprightly, supple and bright are some adjectives that can describe Medha Hari’s Bharathanatyam performance at the Music Academy dance festival…. Medha’s energy and agility lit up the stage and made the adavus seem airy… Her carriage- her back is ramrod straight – adds sophistication to her style… Guided by Priyadarsini, Medha’s repertoire had many points of interest…. Unusual symbolism, using only Netra abhinaya, brief sancharis and some unusual analogies…. Medha portrayed the hurt nayika very well….. She has matured and learnt to quieten down during her abhinaya and add stillness during her varnam…..” read more
Narthaki, January 2024
“The fourth day of the festival began with the Brilliant performance of Medha Hari. Right from Bhogeendra Shayinam to Thillana, Medha ruled the stage…. On all counts she outwitted her peers and the subsequent generation of dancers. Her slender figure, infectious energy, intricately yet intriguingly interwoven adavus, degree of involvement in the text and the contexts and the meticulous selection of items made the recital most memorable. How did Medha defamiliarize it with her irreproachable treatment of its nritta, nritya and natya is beyond words. Her treatment of the charanam, "Kuzhal udhum azhagaa Kanna...." is just an example to cite in this context…” read more

“Using sollukattus and ‘Om Namah Shivaya’ chants, Medha depicted the form and various attributes of Shiva, moving seamlessly between nritta and postures.. Medha with her stage presence was able to communicate her ideas effectively…”

“Medha Hari, a child prodigy of Guru Anitha Guha, was very impressive in the brief glimpse I had. I was struck by this skinny dancer who oozed maturity and poise in her 27 years. Beautiful technique, sustained abhinaya and convincing gravitas augurs well for Medha’s future...”
Narthaki, Jan 2019
“The morning session saw Anitha Guha’s disciple Medha Hari, bright young dancer who charmed the audience with her Nritta and communicative abhinaya…The varnam offered Medha scope for elaborating the majestic prowess and dignity of Bhupati Govind alternating with scintillating Nritta. The five flowery arrows were danced away with delicacy.. In Arunachal Kavirayar’s padam Sita’s pleadings to Rama found felicitous expression that moved the spectators for the unbearable agony of Sita… Medha’s complete involvement was touching.” read more

“Medha Hari and Bhavajan complimented each other in nritta and abhinaya. Energetic with chiselled movements, they were a treat to watch..The stories associated with Meenakshi were done briefly with care to avoid the dramatic. The stress was on the charanam line ‘Syame Sakala Bhuvana Sarvabhoume’. The concept of the Goddess residing in the centre of the Sasi Mandala was depicted with poetic finesse..The pangs of Vipralamba Sringaram were conveyed in depth through mature abhinaya to the ashtapadhi by Medha Hari...” read more

“It was evident from start to finish that young dancer Medha Hari has a strong foundation in the grammar of Bharathanatyam. The vibrancy of her performance at the Music Academy held the audience interest throughout. The slim and petite frame worked in her favour as she filled the nritta segments with fast-paced movements…Right from the first piece, she covered the stage space with lithe jumps and leaps.. The sancharis she used to communicate the naayika’s state of mind without her lord was impressive…” read more

“Delightfully synchronised and complementing each other, Medha Hari and Bhavajan Kumar right from the ‘Marakatha manimaya’ in Arabhi, performed with a high energy level, their immaculate leg extensions and electrifying movement through racy teermanams, fully exploiting the duet form… In the excellently choreographed varnam-like Keerawani ‘Balakanaka murali’, each metaphorical statement followed by a quicksilver teermanam, Krishna’s qualities and ecstatic flute play got vividly communicated…The concluding tour de force of the famous Kalinga Nartanam in Gambheera Nattai was imaginatively choreographed and performed with aplomb…” read more
The Hindu, Mar 2015
“If technique and emotive expression can be termed as two sides of the same coin in the art of Bharathanatyam, then Medha Hari did justice to both aspects admirably…Her performance had a vitality which was a result of intense training in the components of the art form wherein lithe movements, attractive stances and bright music generated memorable images...Medha’s nritta was clear cut and she executed adavus briskly… There was no deviation in her araimandi stance through the recital… The dancer devoted ample effort to bring variations in sringara bhava... Medha’s abhinaya not only caught the mood but also illustrated Krishna’s indignation persuasively” read more

“Performance sparkled with crisply rendered theermanams and well timed and executed steps” – headlined ...The performance stood out for top-notch performance from the dancer…the challenging varnam “Saamiai Azhaithodivaa Sakhiye Endan” sparkled with crisply rendered theermanams and well timed and executed steps, the former for its rhythmic configuration and the latter for its symbolism of the Siva Thandavam….. Medha is a bright and conscientious dancer, who was impressive from start to finish…. Despite the restricted space of the Narada Gana Sabha Mini Hall, her nritta was not wanting in any department.. The devotional kriti on Rama and the lively javali brought out Medha's expressive maturity… Medha's expressive maturity, the latter was especially arresting because of the strong sthayi bhava of the confident heroine that was established early on” read more
