BHU VAIKUNTA PANDHARPURA

This beautiful madhurageetham by His Holiness Maharanyam Sri.Sri. Muralidhara Swamiji, is the voice of a devotee, amused at the Lord’s decision to leave behind the real Vaikunta to descend onto Bhooloka as Panduranga Vittala. While it is every devotee’s dream to attain moksha, you desire to be amongst your devotees in bhooloka, He says.

Legend states that, Vittala, extremely pleased with Pundaleeka’s devotion and service to his parents, rushes earnestly along with Rakkumai to meet him. But Pundaleeka requests the Lord to wait atop a small brick while he completes his duties towards his parents. Astonished and elated by Pundaleeka’s unconditional devoutness, Vittala blesses him and promises to stay back, just as he came. Legend states that he waited 28 yugas for Pundaleeka.

Narahari Sonar, a goldsmith, was a staunch Shiva Bhaktha. Once when he was approached by the temple preists to create a waistband for their deity, Vittala, he refuses vehemently. After much insistence, he enters the temple blindfolded to surmise the exact measurements of the idol. Vittala, known for his playful ways presents himself in the form of his Ishta Devatha, Shiva while Narahari Sonar is blindfolded. Confused, he removes his blindfold only to see Vittala. Sonar finally realizes his folly and accepts Hari and Hara as one.
