While the river Yamuna, the backdrop against which the episode is set is synonymous with the passage of time, the serpent Kaliya is imagined to represent the vices that control human emotions and actions. As the vices start to influence the human mind, a slow progression from imbalance and confusion, a battle that finally culminates into an eruption. Krishna, the charmer is analogous with the victory of good over evil.
